"Pseudofolliculitis" or "ingrown hairs"
or "razor bumps" happens when shortened hair does not grow straight out of
the follicle opening. Instead, it curls into the side wall of the hair
follicle causing what looks like a pimple. Therefore, people with particular
curly hair tend to have more of a problem with this.
Ingrown hairs are primarily caused by
poor product and/or poor technique. The shaving products that most men use
do not offer adequate protection against blades. Also, many products contain
alcohol that dries the skin. Dry skin creates a barrier that prevents the
hair from breaking through. A build up of dead skin cells can also do this.
Fix your current problem with
Derma
Repair. Then, you need non-drying, alcohol free products for your skincare
regimen and you must keep your skin moisturized. Also, you need to exfoliate
(scrub) regularly to remove dead skin cells and to free your hairs. Make
sure to shave with the grain. Shaving against the grain can push the
follicle back into the opening. Shave with warm water to allow your pores to
open and your beard to soften. Also use a prehave oil under your shaving
cream or gel to help the blades glide. Lastly, use moisturizer in the
morning and before going to bed. |
