Ingrown hairs happen when shortened hair does not grow straight out of the follicle opening. Instead, the ingrown hair curls into the side wall of the hair follicle causing what looks like a pimple. People with particular curly hair tend to have more of a problem with ingrown hairs.
Ingrown hairs are primarily caused by poor skincare product and/or poor facial cleansing techniques. The shaving products that most men use do not offer adequate protection against blades and therefore promote ingrown hairs. Also, many products contain alcohol that dries the skin. Dry skin creates a barrier that prevents the hair from breaking through. A build up of dead skin cells can also do this and then guess what - ingrown hair.
We recommend you fix ingrown hairs with Derma Repair. Then use a non-drying, alcohol free product for your skincare regimen, and always keep your skin moisturized. Also, you need to exfoliate (scrub) regularly to remove dead skin cells and to free your hairs. Make sure to shave with the grain. Shaving against the grain can push the follicle back into the opening. Shave with warm water to allow your pores to open and your beard to soften. Also use a prehave oil under your shaving cream or gel to help the blades glide. Lastly, use moisturizer in the morning and before going to bed and keep those pesky ingrown hairs at bay. |
