If you have sensitive skin, shaving with
an electric razor may be for you, but only if you know what you’re doing.
Shaving with a razor blade actually removes a layer of skin, and while this
might result in a closer shave, it may also cause irritation.
Electric razors cut the hair without
taking a layer of skin with it. It’s important to remember that you get what
you pay for when it comes to electric razors. The more expensive razors
generally have blades that move at much higher speeds, meaning they’ll cut
more efficiently and effortlessly.
Inexpensive electric razors can actually
twist or pull the hair causing irritation. There are two types of electric
razors – linear and rotary. Linear razors generally provide a closer shave
while the rotary provides an easier, faster shave. Linear razors are also
better for sensitive skin.
You can use an electric razor to get a
nice, close shave. Here’s how:
When shaving with an electric razor, you
want your face to be dry so that the razor can glide smoothly. Use an
electric preshave solution or a toner before shaving. This will absorb
excess oil to provide a smooth, dry surface. Use your free hand to stretch
and hold your skin. Move the razor against the grain to get closer. After
shaving, protect your MUG by applying an alcohol-free, fragrance-free, and
moisturizing after shave balm, gel, or lotion. This may be the most
important step in that it nourishes, protects, soothes and regenerates the
skin. Use an exfoliating scrub 3 times per week. Since you are not getting
any exfoliating action by using an electric razor, the scrub will remove
dead skin cells and prevent ingrown hairs. |
