It releases the ideal amount of product to treat one area of the face. When purchased, product is in 'locked position.' To unlock, gently turn the knob in the 'open' direction until you hear a click. Remove the cap on the other end, push the knob once (a little gel will come out), apply gel to face with applicator (avoid using fingers to minimize spreading acne).
